High school welcomes new principal

Thomas Murphy, a Billerica native who is currently principal of Windham High School in Windham, N.H., will succeed Kevin Soraghan, who is retiring in June, as principal of Billerica Memorial High School. Prior to his time in Windham, Murphy worked in Billerica as an assistant principal at the high school and as a history teacher at both the high school and the Locke Middle School. Murphy, one of three finalists for the top job at Billerica Memorial High, was named the 2013 New Hampshire Principal of the Year for his work in Windham. “I am look[ing] forward to him joining our team, and I am excited that he will bring his vision, commitment, passion, integrity, and focus on student learning to the high school,” School Superintendent Tim Piwowar said in a written statement posted on the district’s website. In all, the district received 45 applications for the post.
