City invites residential feedback

Residents are invited to offer their feedback on the city’s draft plan for spending grant money it will receive for fiscal 2014 from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as local income it anticipates from programs initiated with HUD funds. The city estimates it will be awarded $858,641 in Community Development Block Grant funds, $89,983 in Home Investment Partnership money, and $130,000 in program income in fiscal 2014. The money must be used to benefit low- and moderate-income people in Salem in such areas as housing, economic development, neighborhood improvement, and public service. The city will hold a public hearing on the draft plan Thursday at 6 p.m. on the third floor of the City Hall annex, 120 Washington St. Written comments will be accepted through April 24. The draft plan is available for review at the Department of Planning & Community Development, the public library, and the Housing Authority, or by following links on the city’s website, www.salem.com. For more information, call the Department of Planning and Community Development at 978-619-5685.
