School Superintendent Cyndy Taymore has appointed Marianne Farrell as principal at Melrose High School. Farrell had been acting principal since Dan Richards left the job at the end of the last school year. Farrell joined the school in 1999 as assistant principal. Taymore conducted a search for a permanent principal that spanned several months. A field of 32 applicants was whittled down to two finalists. Farrell has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Boston State College and a master’s degree in school administration from Salem State University. “I believe Marianne Farrell will make Melrose High School a student-centered school with improved teaching methods, improved student and parent input, and a rigorous academic curriculum,” Taymore wrote in a statement issued March 21 announcing Farrell’s appointment.
