Verdicchio joins School Committee

Winchester Town Meeting member Susan Verdicchio is stepping into a new role as a School Committee member after capturing 1,079 votes in the March 26 town election. Verdicchio, who has lived in Winchester for more than 20 years and has been active in the Muraco, McCall, and high school parent associations, won the most votes in the highly competitive race. She replaces Sarah Swiger, who decided not to run for reelection. In all, four candidates competed for two open seats on the School Committee, which was the only contested townwide race. Incumbent Christian D. Nixon captured 920 votes to retain his seat on the School Committee for another three years. Roughly 14 percent of the town’s 14,458 registered voters went to the polls on Tuesday, according to Town Clerk Mary Ellen Lannon. In all, 2,047 ballots were cast, she reported.
