North Reading Town Moderator John Murphy was honored April 3 by the Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce as the business group’s outstanding North Reading citizen of the year. Murphy, senior vice president and director of business development at the Reading Co-operative Bank, is president of the Woburn Business Association, a member of the board of directors for the Burbank YMCA, and an active member of the North Reading music boosters. He previously served on the Board of Selectmen and the Elementary School Building Committee. A resident of North Reading since 1995, Murphy just completed an eight-year term on the board of the Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce. Under Murphy’s direction, the chamber created its “Buy Local” campaign, a program that reminds consumers of the importance of spending money locally to support small businesses in Reading and North Reading, according to Julie Higgins, the chamber’s executive director. Murphy remains an active member of the chamber and serves as chairman of the group’s North Reading holiday lights festival. At the April 3 dinner event, the chamber also honored Domenic Rotondi as its outstanding Reading citizen of the year. For more information about the chamber, visit www.readingnreadingchamber.org.
