Peabody Foundation honors six educators

The Peabody Education Foundation on Thursday will honor six educators. The nonprofit foundation this year started the George Peabody Legacy Award to recognize educators and others who have contributed significantly to the city’s public schools. The foundation will annually select one or more recipients for the award. A 19th-century philanthropist after whom the city is named, George Peabody was an early advocate for education. This year’s honorees are Helen Apostolides, Francis Hardy, Thomas Hosman, John E. Murtagh, John “Jack” Murtagh, and the late Jim Geanoulis . The award ceremony will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Wiggin Auditorium at City Hall. The ticket price is $35 per person, and will include food and a cash bar. Proceeds will benefit the foundation, which raises funds to support programs and services in the city’s schools. For tickets or for more information or to obtain tickets, call the foundation’s president, Dave Gravel, at 978-538-9055, or go to
