Eighteen-year Selectman Michael Manning held off a challenge from former Advisory and Finance Committee chairwoman Joyce Maroney, bya vote of 540-452, at the April 27 annual town election. That was the only contested race on the ballot. At annual Town Meeting, held on the same day, residents approved the fiscal year 2014 operating budget of $10.6 million and three proposals dealing with Short Beach: to install a post-and-rope fence to separate the mowed and unmowed areas, to appropriate $55,000 for dune grass restoration, and to remove the basketball court at the beach.
