Voters allow zoning for Alzheimer’s facility

Voters at Special Town Meeting on April 25 approved a zoning bylaw change that would allow a private, 64-bed assisted living facility for Alzheimer’s patients on Main Street. The vote was 124 to 9. If the zoning change is approved by the state attorney general’s office, Artis Senior Living of Virginia will move forward with plans to seek local approval for construction of a two-story facility at the former site of Eric’s Plant Emporium. The plans would have to be approved by the town’s Community Planning and Development Commission as well as the Zoning Board of Appeals. The public would have several opportunities to provide input.
