Chamber extends scholarship deadline

The Stoneham Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Committee is extending the deadline for its scholarships to Friday. This year, the chamber will award four $500 scholarships and one $1,000 scholarship to class of 2013 graduating high school seniors. Applicants must be either the child or grandchild of a member in good standing in the Stoneham Chamber, or an employee of a member in good standing. Requirements include two letters of reference, an essay, and a current high school transcript. Applications are available online at and in the guidance departments at Stoneham High School and the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School. All applications must be complete and returned to the chamber’s office, 271 Main St., Suite 102, no later than Friday. The $500 scholarship awards were created in memory of John F. Mahoney Jr. and Kathleen E. Bray, community and chamber members who used their talents to build their businesses in Stoneham and to give back to the community. The chamber’s $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a business-oriented career.
