A 66-year-old Methuen man has been given a suspended sentence of 2½ years in jail and will undergo mandatory alcohol screenings for three years after pleading guilty to driving drunk and causing bodily injury. The charges stem from an Aug. 31 accident in which Angel Suarez drove his car into a bench in Grand Army Park in Haverhill, injuring a man who was sleeping on it. After the accident, Suarez drove to New Hampshire, where he went off the road. Police on the scene issued a breath analysis test, which he failed. In addition to his suspended sentence, Suarez received three years’ probation and lost his license for two years for leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
