Public works to collect hazardous waste


The Andover Department of Public Works is offering residents the opportunity to dispose of household hazardous waste from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at West Elementary School on Beacon Street. Proof of residency is required. Items accepted include pressurized cans, varnish, stain, solvents, items containing mercury, gasoline, waste oil, pool chemicals, and pesticides. Latex paint, computers and televisions, tires, alkaline batteries, and light bulbs are among the items that will not be accepted. Fees range from $5 per car for each 10 gallons or pounds to $10 per car for each 25 gallons or pounds of waste. Propane tanks will be accepted at a cost of $10 for a medium or large tank and $5 for a small tank. Payment may be made by cash or check.
