The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the city two brownfield grants, totaling $400,000. The grants are among 240 awarded nationwide, totaling $12.1 million, to remediate polluted industrial sites. Medford will use the money to clean up contaminated land at 448 High St., at a site that is now a city parking lot. A steam laundry business operated on the site from the late 19th century until 1939. Soil testing in recent years found organic compounds, primarily perchloroethylene (PCE), which has compromised indoor air quality at three adjacent businesses, according to the EPA.
