Woburn

Panel to vote on funding plan

A state transportation panel is proposing to award Woburn $4.7 million toward a project to widen Montvale Avenue near its intersection with Interstate 93. The Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization, a cooperative board that allocates federal and some state funds for transportation projects, included the Woburn project in a draft document that outlines how it will allot funds over the next three years. The panel, which includes Mayor Scott D. Galvin, is set to take a final vote on the funding plan at the end of June. Woburn officials have long sought the Montvale Avenue project as a way to alleviate congestion on the busy road. In a prepared statement, Galvin expressed appreciation to Ward 5 Alderwoman Darlene Mercer-Bruen; Edmund Tarallo, the city’s planning director; and Woburn’s legislative delegation — state Representatives James J. Dwyer of Woburn and Jay R. Kaufman of Lexington and state Senator Kenneth J. Donnelly of Arlington — for their help in securing the funding vote. He urged residents to write the Boston Region MPO in support of the project.
