Town meeting passes over 50 articles

Andover’s 2013 annual Town Meeting concluded last week with the passage of more than 50 articles, including a $147.5 million spending plan for the town for fiscal 2014, which begins July 1; the appropriation of $400,000 to renovate the high school tennis courts; and $218,000 to purchase new computers for the School Department. Other articles approved by voters included $2.5 million for several site improvements at Doherty Middle School and a proposal to establish an elderly housing district in Andover. In all, Town Meeting considered 61 articles. Among the articles rejected at Town Meeting was a proposal for a new parking management action plan for downtown and a plan to repair, rehabilitate, and restore the Ballardvale Fire Station.
