Lieutenant Kevin Ouelett, executive officer with the Amesbury Police Department, has been named as the successor to Chief Mark Gagnon, who plans to retire on June 30. Ouelett will become acting chief on June 6 —Gagnon’s last day in office — until July 1, when he will become chief of police. Lieutenant Jeffrey Worthen, a detective, will be appointed to succeed Ouelett as executive officer, also beginning s an interim assignment on June 6. Sergeants William Scholtz and Kevin Donovan have both applied for the lieutenant/detective position, and will both work in that role on an interim basis as they go through the hiring process.
