North Reading Police Officer Karl Berg recently was recognized as the town’s Frank J. Romeo Officer of the Year. Berg, who has served on the Police Department for the last 34 years, received the award in recognition of his commitment to his job. “Officer Berg’s honesty, integrity, loyalty, and respect have continuously been demonstrated throughout his police career,” according to the Police Department’s statement nominating him for the award, which also noted that Berg “has been one of our most dependable officers, repeatedly going out of his way to be available to assist in not only the day-to-day operations of our Police Department but also for the countless special events and emergency operations within the community that have arisen over the years.” Berg was honored during the Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce’s annual Outstanding Citizens Awards dinner on April 3. The award is named in honor of the late Frank J. Romeo, who was a special constable police officer in North Reading. Berg was also recognized during the award ceremony by state Representatives Brad Jones, a North Reading Republican, and James Dwyer, a Woburn Democrat whose district includes part of Reading, who presented him with state citations.
