CLASS workers will join union

More than 100 service providers from the Citizens League for Adult Special Services — CLASS Inc. — will join the Human Service Workers Union, Service Employees International Union Local 509, after a campaign to unionize that spanned several months. At a recent election, workers voted to join the union in the hope that the move will allow them to secure better pay, improved working conditions, and a greater say in their workplace. With locations in Lawrence, North Andover, and North Reading, CLASS Inc. provides services to hundreds of individuals with disabilities throughout the Merrimack Valley. Many workers earn close to minimum wage and have said they feel that a host of health and safety concerns need to be addressed by the company.
