The Board of Selectmen last Monday recognized John J. Clancy, Burlington's inspector of buildings, for receiving the 2013 conference award from the Eastern States Building Officials Federation at its annual conference in March. The award honors Clancy for his contributions to the field over the years. Clancy has worked for the town for 27 years, first as a local building inspector and since 1991 as inspector of buildings, heading the building department. The federation noted that he has served as a member of its board and was its president from 2007-08. He has also been a board member, vice president, and president of the Massachusetts Building Commissioners and Inspectors Association. He is currently the group's treasurer and investment committee chairman. The federation also cited his work to promote education in the field. He was part of a team that created the Massachusetts association's annual scholarship golf tournament. Now in its 21st year, the scholarship fund has awarded more scholarship money than any other such fund run by building officials in the country, according to the federation.
