New police chief sworn in

At a recent ceremony attended by community members, town officials, representatives of the Tyngsborough Police Department, and family members, Richard Howe was officially sworn in as the town’s 10th police chief. Giving special recognition to his father, a retired Billerica police detective, Howe expressed gratitude for his upbringing and career. Howe was first hired as a patrolman in 1995 and rose through the ranks as he became a sergeant in 1999, detective sergeant in 2010, and detective lieutenant in 2011. He has been acting chief since January while Police Chief William Mulligan has been on medical leave. Mulligan’s retirement becomes official on June 30 and Howe will officially take his new post on July 1.
