Westford has been approved to join a regional economic target area, a designation that will allow the town to offer tax incentive financing, with Town Meeting approval, to businesses to encourage their expansion and attract new companies to town. The state’s Economic Assistance Coordinating Council last month approved Westford’s request to join the 495 Regional Technology Economic Target Area, which also includes Boxborough and Littleton. Inclusion in the economic target area is expected to help Westford achieve the Board of Selectmen’s goals for the town’s economic development by encouraging business investment in commercial zoning districts and expanding local employment opportunities.
