Town names school resource officer

North Reading police Officer Kevin Donle, an 11-year veteran of the department, has been assigned as the new full-time school resource officer. Donle’s appointment marks the first time the town has had a full-time resource officer in the schools. An active member of the Massachusetts Juvenile Police Officers Association, Donle was certified as a school resource officer in April 2008 through the National Association of School Resource Officers and has been a school liaison at both the middle and high school since 2006. The resource officer provides a link between the schools and the Police Department. When issues arise at a school, the resource officer can help mitigate disruption through early intervention. Donle will be assigned to the Police Department’s detective unit and will prepare for his new role during the next few months, according to a statement from North Reading Police Chief Michael P. Murphy.
