The city is encouraging local businesses to take advantage of a free program that helps them establish websites. Through Get Your Business Online, Google provides small-business owners with a custom domain name, Web hosting, and access to related educational resources free for a year. Mayor Daniel Rizzo has enlisted Revere in a national challenge competition organized by the US Conference of Mayors in which the participating cities that recruit the most businesses for the program will receive an award at the organization’s annual conference in Texas next June, according to Miles Lang-Kennedy, Rizzo’s chief of staff. Revere is competing in the small cities category. Although 97 percent of Internet users are now looking online to find local products and services, 58 percent of American businesses still do not have a website, according to data from the mayors’ conference. Since its debut in July 2011, the program has helped more than 135,000businesses go online. “Businesses have to be where their customers are. In 2013, that’s online,” Rizzo said in a statement. Interested business owners can visit for further information on the program.
