The Wakefield-based Angel Fund is holding its 13th-annual fund-raising gala and silent auction on Aug. 3. The nonprofit benefits research into ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, at the Cecil B. Day Laboratory for Neuromuscular Research at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. More commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, ALS is a progressive, always fatal neuromuscular disease. The gala will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Venezia, a Boston restaurant and banquet facility. The cost is $125 and includes a buffet dinner that begins at 7:30 p.m. At the event, individuals and organizations that have made extraordinary contributions to The Angel Fund will be honored.
