The Tavern in the Square, 1 New England Executive Park, is hosting a “Tasting at the Tavern” on July 29 from 5-9 p.m. All proceeds will go to People Helping People, a charity that assists households facing economic hardship to meet their basic needs. Tickets are $20 and include an appetizer buffet that will be served with a cash bar. People Helping People operates the Burlington Community Food Pantry, which provides nonperishable staples as well as meats, eggs, cheese, and produce twice a month to income-eligible households from its location at 10 St. Mark’s Road. In 2012, the pantry distributed more than 110,000 pounds of food, with an average of 328 people served each month, both figures an increase from the previous year. People Helping People also has programs that provide free Thanksgiving meals and holiday gifts for children. Last November, about 180 families received Thanksgiving meals and 200 children received gifts. To purchase a ticket, call Janet Sullivan Fitzgerald at 781-244-9519.
