Thirty midshipmen from the US Naval Academy, 20 sailors from Portsmouth, N.H., and 40 members of the Navy Band Northeast Pops Ensemble were in town last weekend for the annual Rockport Navy Weekend. The town has held the event since 2007, and Sharon Grandmaison, cochairwoman of the Rockport Navy Committee, said: “This was one of the best weekends we’ve had . . . everybody was really involved.” The weekend featured tours of three 44-foot academy sailboats, a band concert, cookouts, pancake breakfast, kickball game with local children, and a softball game against local police and firefighters (won by the Navy, 12-10).
