Green Street parking lot improvements expected this month

Improvements to the Green Street parking lot, including the removal of several diamond-shaped islands that are inconvenient for motorists trying to park in the lot, are scheduled to begin this month. Work is expected to continue into September; however, the entire lot will remain open during Yankee Homecoming, which runs through Aug. 4. The project, which includes landscaping work, maintenance, and drainage and infrastructure improvements, will be completed in phases to reduce the effect on businesses, residents, and visitors, according to Andy Port, the city’s director of planning and development. A second phase of work in the area, improvements to the pedestrian mall along Inn Street, will commence once work in the Green Street lot is completed, Port said.
