City invites residents to street fair

The Salem Chamber of Commerce is inviting area residents to take part in its annual Essex Street Fair, a two-day event in the downtown next Saturday and Sunday. As a result of numerous requests from the public, the chamber starting this year has added a juried Arts & Crafts Open Market during the fair. Crafters and artisans will join food vendors and local merchants in selling their wares along the length of Essex Street from the Daniel Low building to the Hawthorne Hotel, most of which is a pedestrian-only way. The fair is part of the city’s Heritage Days celebration. For information on the fair, or to rent a vendor/artist space, go to or contact the chamber at 978-744-0004.
