Artists coming for Paint Essex Day and auction

Artists will again descend on the Great Marsh, historic sites, and other picturesque parts of Essex for the town’s second annual Paint Essex Day and Wet Paint Auction, on Saturday. Sponsored by the Essex Merchants Association and Eventide Gallery at Periwinkles of Essex to promote the town as a travel destination and to raise money for art scholarships, the event will welcome painters and sculptors at various indoor and outdoor locations from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., with a reception and auction at the Cox Reservation, 82 Eastern Ave., from 5 to 9 p.m. Last year’s event drew 54 artists, approximately 150 people to the auction, and raised about $9,000 for the association, which promotes local restaurants and shops. Registration for artists will be held at 8 a.m., and the cost will be $5. Tickets for the auction are $25, $10 for artists.
