Library breaks monthly record

Hamilton-Wenham Public Library patrons checked out 24,400 items in July, breaking the July record of 23,389 items in 2009. Among the events driving traffic, according to administrative librarian Rebecca Shea: children’s summer reading programs, a Minecraft gaming session hosted by the library’s Teen Think Tank, and a photography class and exhibit led by Toni Carolina. And through Aug. 26, the library will serve as a collection site for backpacks, notebooks, pens, or other school supplies that will be distributed through the Boxford-based Community Giving Tree organization to Essex County children who cannot afford to buy them.
