Following a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Spicket River Greenway officially reached completion and opened to the public. Featuring a network of green spaces and walking paths along Lawrence’s section of the river, the $10 million project stretches 3.5 miles, from Polartec on the northern end to Union Crossing at its southernmost point. The multiyear collaborative project was funded primarily through federal and state grants and spearheaded by community groups such as Groundwork Lawrence, as well as local businesses, nonprofits, and a diverse group of stakeholders. For more information on what is being hailed as the successful combination of riverfront restoration and neighborhood revitalization, including a map of the area, visit www.groundworklawrence.org/spicketrivergreenway.
