YMCA seeks donations for major fund-raiser


The Burbank YMCA is planning its biggest event of the year, the “Fall for the Y” cocktail party, and is seeking donations, sponsors, and volunteers. The event, scheduled to take place Nov. 8 at Hillview Country Club, will feature a live and silent auction, hors d’oeuvres, and an open beer and wine bar. Tickets are $65 per person. The Burbank Y is hoping to raise $50,000 through the event, according to executive director Irene Collins. Last year, the event raised $30,000, she said. Proceeds will benefit the Burbank Y’s annual fund, which is used to cover the cost of services that the organization provides at no charge to families in need, from swim lessons to child care and camp programs. Sponsorship opportunities for “Fall for the Y” are available, and range from $100 to $2,000or more. The organization also is seeking items for the auction and volunteers to help with planning. Lord Drive, serves individuals and families in Reading, Stoneham, North Reading, Wilmington, and Wakefield.
