Overdose vigil to be held Thursday

The third annual Gloucester Overdose Vigil is scheduled for Thursday. Family, friends, and neighbors of those who have died by drug overdose are invited to gather on Stacy Boulevard at the flagpole near the Cut Bridge, overlooking Gloucester Harbor, from 7 to 9 p.m. for a remembrance of loved ones that will include speakers, music, and the reading of names. According to a release from the Gloucester Overdose Vigil Committee, two people die from overdoses every day in Massachusetts, and the overdose rate in Gloucester is high compared with other similar-sized communities. The vigil is scheduled rain or shine.
