Mayor names new purchasing agent

Mayor Scott D. Galvin recently announced his appointment of Michael D. Gauthier as the city’s new purchasing agent. Gauthier previously served as procurement analyst for Somerville. Before that, he held management positions with various federal government contractors. The Salem native holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Boston College. “We are happy to welcome Michael Gauthier as the city’s new purchasing agent,” Galvin said in a prepared statement. “Michael is a capable, experienced professional who will serve our city well.” Gauthier replaces Sarah Stanton, who resigned in March to become Salem’s finance director. Following her departure, William McGowan, who had been the city’s purchasing agent for 27 years before retiring in 2009, returned to serve as interim purchasing agent while the city conducted the search for a permanent replacement.
