Retired teacher seeks sponsor for journal

Retired middle school teacher Christopher Dollas is seeking a sponsor for Impressions, the Newburyport public schools’ annual educators’ journal. Dollas, who has served as editor of the publication since its inaugural edition, said the magazine’s longtime benefactor is no longer able to provide a grant for the project. The benefactor’s support ended in 2012. By publishing only a digital edition of Impressions that year, Dollas was able to set aside enough money to print a hard copy of the magazine this year, in honor of the publication’s 25th anniversary. The 2013 silver anniversary edition contains a number of pieces from past editions, including original literary works, artwork, and photography. The front covers from the previous 24 editions also are included. In addition, the founder of the magazine, former Newburyport school superintendent Francis T. Bresnahan, who died in September 1993, is honored in an opening piece penned by his daughter, Ellen Bresnahan Sullivan. Dollas said he hopes to find a benefactor who will underwrite future publication of a printed copy of Impressions. Over the years, the magazine has featured about 420 pieces contributed by some 125staff members, Dollas said. He may be reached at cdollas@comcast.net.
