800 volunteers expected to build Winthrop School playground

Beginning Wednesday — National Service Day — approximately 800 volunteers are expected to turn out over five days to construct a new playground at the Winthrop Elementary School. The $250,000 “Together We Play” project — the funds mostly raised through corporate and private donations as well as a recent grant from the Ipswich public schools (from funds distributed by the New Feoffees from the sale of Little Neck property) — includes a mix of natural and crafted equipment with instructional elements. The playground will be 100 percent accessible. Organizers are still seeking volunteers for the installation, and donations, at, where an artist’s rendering of the playground design can also be seen.
