Cultural Council accepting grant applications

The Chelmsford Cultural Council is accepting applications for program grants for 2014. As part of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Chelmsford group annually allocates state funds for cultural programs to benefit residents. The application deadline is Oct. 15. The Chelmsford organization this year received an $8,030 grant. Typically, funding requests exceed the amount of money the state distributes to local councils. The Massachusetts Cultural Council this fiscal year awarded grants totaling $234,970 to cultural organizations, schools, and communities in the Third Middlesex District, which covers most of the Merrimack Valley, including Chelmsford. “The grants ensure that the cultural resources unique to my district and other cultural work across the state continue to thrive and enrich people’s lives,” state Senator Michael Barrett, a Lexington Democrat, said in a prepared statement. “The new state funding for the arts, humanities, and sciences will have a meaningful impact.”
