Local organization holding climate change forum

The newly formed Winthrop organization Coastal Community Citizens is presenting a public forum on climate change Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert DeLeo Senior Center, 35 Harvard St. Ellen Douglas and state Representative Frank Smizik will serve as featured speakers at the event, “A Conversation on Climate Change for Coastal Communities.” Douglas is associate professor of hydrology, hydromorphology, and water resource management, at the School for the Environment at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her work includes developing adaptation strategies to climate change for communities in the Northeast, with a focus on storm water and coastal flooding impacts. Smizik, a Brookline Democrat, chairs the House Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change. Environmental experts from Harvard Medical School and the group 350MA.org will also speak. Following the presentations, the speakers will join in a panel discussion on possible solutions, and take questions from the audience. The event is free and open to all.
