Real estate agent joins Board of Assessors

A Merrimack Valley real estate agent has been named to the Methuen Board of Assessors, taking the first vacant seat on the three-person board in 16 years. Janet McLennan, who has owned a Century 21 office on Broadway for almost 30 years, said she will bring valuable knowledge on housing values and market trends to the position, which involves reviewing property valuation appeals. Initial concerns on the part of other board members about a potential conflict of interest were put to rest by the city’s lawyers, who stated that McLennan was fine to take the position provided she offer full disclosure about prior involvement with any properties being discussed, and recuse herself from those decisions.
