The Center for Terrorism and Security Studies has officially opened at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, leading to new degree programs and research efforts. Directed by John Horgan, author and the former director of the International Center for the Study of Terrorism at Penn State University, and Mia Bloom, author and UMass Lowell professor of security studies, the center will house collaborative research projects covering topics including terrorism, cyber-security, transnational crime, and weapons of mass destruction. At an opening symposium entitled “New Security Challenges” held on Sept. 24, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis delivered a keynote address reflecting on lessons learned from the Boston Marathon bombings. For more information on the new center, visit uml.edu/Research/CTSS.
