City remembers police officer

A ceremony was held earlier this month for a Malden police officer who died in the line of duty, commemorating the 50th anniversary of his death. Officer Edward C. Callahan was fatally shot after responding to an armed robbery at a Pleasant Street grocery store on Sept. 14, 1963. A ceremony was held on Sept. 16 across the street from the site of the shooting. It was attended by Callahan’s widow, Mimi, and his grandson, Joshua, who is enrolled in the police academy and is seeking to become a Malden police officer.
