Mayor taking a look at redevelopment authority

Malden Mayor Gary Christenson is looking to make the city’s redevelopment authority a municipal office and consolidate it with existing planning and business development offices. Christenson presented his plan to the City Council for review on Sept. 24. In a prepared statement, the mayor said the changes will help the city operate more efficiently. “This proposal will combine different parts of our city organization that all play complimentary roles and will provide a cohesive and integrated approach to the delivery of services,” he said. The redevelopment authority has acquired and distributed community block grant funding and other federal development grants since the 1950s. The proposed changes will be reviewed by the council’s ordinance committee.
