Nick Cambio, Central Catholic: While Fairfield-bound guard Tyler Nelson remained sidelined with a broken wrist, the senior forward captain ran the show with 21 points and 12 rebounds in the Red Raiders’ 58-43 season opener against Methuen.

Sam Charette/Catherine Ecker : The senior captains were all over the scoresheet in their first game of the year; Charette, a 6-foot-1 center, netted 10 points, along with 10 rebounds and five steals, while Ecker, a guard, put up 15 points, 13 rebounds, and five steals as the Generals trounced Triton, 45-22 on Dec. 13.

Anthony Gilardi, Malden: In a season-opening thriller, the junior forward tallied 24 points and seven rebounds as the Golden Tornados edged Brighton, 63-62.

Emily Pettigrew, Newburyport: The sophomore forward put on a clinic in her first game of the year, notching 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and five blocks in the Clippers’ 49-40 win over North Reading on Dec. 13.

Jessica Witten, Andover: With the Golden Warriors trailing by 7 with two minutes remaining, the senior guard nailed two clutch 3-pointers, sparking a 49-45 comeback win over Lowell.
