Democrats to elect delegates to state convention

Local Democrats will be electing delegates and alternates to their party’s state convention in caucuses on Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Torigian Community Life Center, 79 Central St. Separate caucuses will be held for each of the city’s six wards to select a combined 32 delegates and 18 alternates. The state convention will be held June 13-14 at the DCU Center in Worcester. The main business will be endorsement of Democratic candidates for statewide offices. This year marks the first time that all the wards in the city will hold their convention caucuses at a single place and time. The caucuses are organized by the Democratic City Committee and ward committees, but are open to any Peabody resident who is a registered Democrat as of Friday, Jan. 31. Delegates will be divided equally between men and women. All ballots will be written and secret. For more information, contact Debbie Ryan, the city committee chairwoman, at 978-531-7961.
