A series of public hearings focused on how more than $1 million in federal grants will be spent is underway in Malden. The Malden Redevelopment Authority held the first of three hearings on Jan. 30. About $1 million in block grant funding is expected to be allocated to the city through the Department of Housing and Urban Development for fiscal year 2014, along with additional federal funding that will be split between several communities in the region, according to the redevelopment authority. A public hearing on the funds was held Jan. 30. Two more are scheduled for Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. at Suffolk Manor, 313 Bryant St., and Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. at Malden Government Center.
