Program on dating abuse to be presented in high school auditorium

The School Action Committee of the North Reading Community Impact Team is partnering with the office of Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan and Middlesex Partnerships for Youth Inc. to present a program on dating abuse. “Achieving Healthy Relationships: How to Recognize and Respond to Teen Dating Abuse” is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 31 in the North Reading High School auditorium. Admission is free. The program will be led by Ryan, a career prosecutor, who will describe the signs of tween/teen dating abuse, such as jealousy, isolation, rule-setting, and monitoring. Ryan also will highlight how adults can spot warning signs, especially when texting and social media may make it difficult to do so, and offer tips on how to talk with tweens/teens about dating abuse and where to turn for help if needed. The presentation is being offered in response to a survey taken last year in which North Reading parents indicated a strong interest in learning more about teen-dating violence. To register for the program, visit and follow the “Teen Dating Abuse” links. Registration is not required, but it will help ensure enough materials are available for all attendees.
