Haverhill resident Cheryl Hajjar recently was awarded $4,000 at the 2014 Sandbox Winter Accelerator Awards Celebration. The event, held in Lawrence on March 6, marked the conclusion of the third Merrimack Valley Sandbox Accelerator Program, held from December 2013 to February 2014. Fourteen early-stage ventures participated in the program, moving their businesses and nonprofit organizations forward with the help of workshops, mentors, space, and funding. Hajjar won funding for “Indigo Pixies,” storybooks that help children build the confidence they need to overcome challenging developmental milestones such as ending pacifier use and potty training. During the event, the program awarded a total of $25,000 to its top entrepreneurs. The Merrimack Valley Sandbox is a nonprofit organization founded in December 2010 with the mission to boost the economic and social well-being of Greater Lowell and Lawrence by advancing entrepreneurship and innovation.
