Town Meeting convenes Saturday

Annual Town Meeting is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wilmington Middle School, 25 Carter Lane. Voters will be asked to consider 46 articles, including a proposal to appropriate $750,000 from the town’s free cash account toward future retirement obligations. The proposal is part of the town’s effort to manage its retirement fund liability. Wilmington has about $12 million in free cash, according to Assistant Town Manager Kendra Amaral. Other items on the Town Meeting warrant include an article seeking a vote on a zoning bylaw that would regulate where and under what conditions medical marijuana dispensaries could open in town. Under the proposal, the dispensaries would be allowed by special permit in general industrial and highway industrial zones, provided the facilities are at least 1,000 feet from residential zones, schools, churches, playgrounds, the library, and other areas where children may commonly congregate. To view the warrant, visit the municipal website, www.wilmingtonma.gov, and click on the link to Town Meeting from the calendar of events.
