Salem State School of Education appoints new dean

The School of Education at Salem State University recently announced the appointment of Joseph Cambone to serve as the new dean of the school. The Boston resident comes to Salem State from Lesley University, where he served most recently as senior associate dean for strategy and innovation and associate professor in the university’s Graduate School of Education. A graduate of Mt. St. Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y., Cambone also has a master’s degree from Boston College and a doctorate in education from Harvard University. Prior to joining Lesley University, Cambone worked for the Walker School in Needham, first as director of research and evaluation, and later as associate executive director. He also worked as lead consultant at The Walker-Wheelock Institute for Equity in Schools. His appointment comes at a time of transition for Salem State’s School of Education, which last year became a stand-alone school within the university. From the 1990s until last year, it had been part of the School of Health and Human Services.
