City swears in seven new firefighters

The city last Monday swore in seven new full-time, permanent firefighters recently appointed by Mayor Ted Bettencourt. Taking the oath were Daniel Barrasso, Sean Dolan, Mark Eliuk, John Marotta, Matthew McKinnon, Luke Murdoch, and Justin Sauvageau, according to Karen Budrow, the city’s human resources director. All were hired through the civil service process to fill vacancies that resulted from retirements. The new firefighters, who will undergo training at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, are all Peabody residents. Budrow said Peabody is taking advantage of a provision in state civil service law that allows the city to provide first preference to city residents in hiring police officers and firefighters.
