Public forum scheduled with Zoning Advisory Committee

As part of Reading’s effort to comprehensively revise the town’s zoning bylaws, town officials have scheduled a public forum with the Zoning Advisory Committee. The forum, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Pleasant Street Center, 49 Pleasant St., will give residents an opportunity to voice their concerns regarding signs, parking, and the town’s nonconforming regulations. The forum is part of the town’s ongoing effort to simplify, clarify, and update zoning bylaws to address current development trends and anticipate future housing and business needs. Changes would represent a significant step toward implementation of the 2006 Reading Master Plan, the 2012 Housing Production Plan, the Open Space and Recreation Plan, several downtown studies and design guidelines, and other related planning projects. It is the first time since 1926 that the town has undertaken a comprehensive zoning revision. Residents who cannot make it to the forum may offer input online by filling out a short questionnaire.
